New student essentials

Congratulations and welcome to BU - your university adventure officially starts here!

You probably have more than a few questions and with a bit of luck - we should have all the answers!

Hopefully you will find most of the answers you need right now in this section.

If not, you can also contact askBU, our ‘one-stop shop’ for student enquiries.

Right let's get you started!

  • Hopefully you have now completed your online registration (you can do this once we have confirmed your offer and issued you with your IT username and password)
  • Ensure that you have read all the pre-arrival information that you have been sent (including the student handbook) and booked your accommodation
  • Familiarise yourself with what the Students' Union (SUBU) have planned during arrivals to ensure that you're well on your way to having a great Bournemouth experience.
  • Also familiarise yourself with myBU the University's 'virtual learning environment'. It contains all your course information including reading lists, course handbooks, lecture material and more, plus any pre-arrival activities that may apply to your course
  • Don't forget the student portal too. It contains all the non-course specific information that you will need during your time at BU including things to do, actions we have taken as a result of student feedback, and where to go for help if you have a problem or concern.

If you haven’t been to university before you will find that the environment is quite different to a school or college and you will probably find it useful to read more about preparing to study or university life. You may also want to browse through the links below:

Remember, we are here to help you so if you are unsure about anything, just ask.
