Part-time students

It's not just full time students we help to access funding.

Financial support is available to part-time undergraduates in the form of Fee Grants and Course Grants.

Find out more about both in this section.

If you are one of our part-time undergraduate students, you may be eligible for a government grant and potentially other support. The grant is split to help cover not only the cost of your tuition fees but also to help you with expenses such as course equipment and books.

Fee grant

The fee grant is a means-tested award and is paid to us directly, to help cover the cost of your part-time course.

How much will you receive?

The maximum fee grant which you could receive for 2009/10 is £1,210.

In addition, the intensity of the course you are studying will also determine the level of grant. This means that the more subjects or units you study in any individual academic year, the higher the grant is likely to be. Your level of household income will also determine how high or low the final award is.

To check how your household income and course intensity is likely to affect your award, please visit the Directgov website, where you can check the income bandings and other factors.

Course grant

Like the fee grant, the course grant is a means tested award, but this is paid to you rather than BU. It is there to assist with any course related costs, typically books, stationary and course equipment.

How much will you receive?

The maximum course grant you could receive in 2009/10 is £260. It is calculated in the same way as the fee grant and you can check how much grant you are likely to receive by visiting the Directgov website.
