As long as you are enrolled as a full-time student you will be exempt from paying council tax.
You will be issued with a Council Tax exemption certificate at the beginning of your programme of study at BU and it is valid until the normal end-date of your programme.
Will you be charged?
No charge is made for your certificate. However, it is important that students keep this certificate for the duration of their programme.
If you need to send the certificate to the Council and/or your landlord, make sure you send photocopies and keep the original safe.
What happens if I lose my Certificate?
To request a replacement Council Tax Exemption Certificate you need to do the following:
- Check with the askBU Students' Service that you are entitled to a replacement Council Tax exemption certificate
- Complete the replacement Council Tax exemption form (downloadable from this page) and give the completed form to an askBU adviser.
- The askBU Student's Service will then issue you with the certificate.
The whole process should take no longer than two - three working days.
