Over the summer months, IT Services have installed Windows7 on to all student PCs in Open Access Areas and computer labs.
Also installed is the latest version of Microsoft Office (2010) which will allow for a greater range of functionality for students when completing assignments.
You can find out more details, including how to best use the new software here.
BU is in the process of upgrading its wireless network, meaning University buildings at the Lansdowne and Talbot Campus will have improved, reliable and quicker wi-fi. The £1.7million project will mean you can use your own laptops in Uni or get online via a smartphone much faster and easier than before. You can expect to see this quicker service in the majority of BU buildings and communal outdoor areas in the first few weeks of November. Then over the coming months the upgrade will be rolled out to remaining buildings. Keep an eye on the plasma screens and Student Portal for updates on this service.
Students will now be able to send work to any printer and then use their ‘smart card ’ to activate the print out. This will eliminate the risk of you printing out a document and arriving at the printer to find it has disappeared.
BU operates a ‘surveys’ email group to allow you to participate in other students research. Previously all students were enrolled in this group but could choose to ‘opt-out’. Following feedback from students we have changed the way this operates and students now have to choose to receive these emails. Details of how to do this are available on the IT for students pages.
