Do you speak a foreign language? How's your holiday Italian? Maybe you're considering a placement abroad and fancy brushing up your school French or Spanish? We know that foreign language competency is more and more in demand from some employers - so perhaps you'd like to enhance your CV by learning some basic Arabic or Mandarin Chinese?
Then please check out the Languages@BU community on myBU.
Languages@BU is BU's flexible, easy-to-follow structured foreign languages programme for anyone wishing to learn a new language, and/or dust off and brush up old language skills, or improve and progress your existing competence.
Based in our dedicated Language Centre (DL127, The Sir Michael Cobham Library), some materials are also available on myBU which gives you flexibility to study when and where you like.
Enrolling...
You will see the Languages@BU Community on your myBU home page. Please click on the link and follow the instructions in 'Information and Registration' to enrol to the language and level you want.
Induction...
Induction workshops are currently running with Paul Barnes in the Language Centre (DL127). Paul will provide you with all the information you need to get started. We will also be able to give you tips and ideas on how to improve your language learning skills generally. To book your place on an induction, please use the sign-up sheets, also in 'Information and Registration'.
Conversation Clubs...
There will also be oral practice Conversation Clubs to give you the chance to speak the language you are learning. These sessions are run by native-speaker students, guided by us. Sessions begin week commencing 31st October, running for six weeks this term and six weeks again in the Spring term. Details of these sessions are published on the Languages@BU community (click on the Conversation Sessions link on the left).
You choose...
...whether to simply follow our structured self-managed learning programme at your own pace, and/or whether to join the Conversation Club.
Remember, too, that participation in these programmes is one of the many contributors to the BU Student Development Award.
