19 May 2011

A recent waste audit of Bournemouth University's general waste bins found that more than half of what BU sends to landfill could be recycled!

To help improve our recycling rate Estates & IT Services are rolling out mixed and white paper recycling facilities into offices and student areas on both campuses over the coming weeks. So everyone should be in easy reach of recycling facilities.

The octagonal 'Greenstar' bins are for mixed recycling. BU's commercial mixed recycling can take so much more than domestic kerbside recycling please take a moment to take a look at what you can recycle at BU:

All paper and cardboard including:

  • magazines
  • phonebooks
  • food packaging
  • juice cartons or 'tetra packs'
  • takeaway coffee cups (including Costa)

All hard plastics including:

  • plastic bottles (and lids)
  • sandwich boxes
  • plastic cups and food packaging
  • plastic plates and cutlery
  • polystyrene cups and lids

All metal cans, tins, aluminium foil and trays.

Glass bottles and jars

You can even recycle the wooden stirrers from Costa outlets. So much, there should be little left for the rubbish bin!

To avoid contamination please do not put any food (including things like tea bags), liquids, sodden paper and cardboard, plastic films like crisp packets and plastic bags in to the recycling bins.
