Climbing wall

As of April 2012 Hot Rocks climbing wall will be closed while we undergo significant enhancements to our internal facilities. We are hoping to be able to build a new state-of-the-art climbing facility at BU in the summer of 2013. In the meantime, we are looking to enable those who used the wall to use alternative local facilities. Ask a member of sportBU staff or call 01202 965012 for more information. The Hot Rocks climbing wall is suitable for both novices and experienced climbers.

What's more it really is an alternative, fun way of keeping fit.

The wall stands 7m high and boasts an amazing 30 different climbing routes.

Bottom rope and bouldering are available and a separate bouldering wall and campus/finger board complete the comprehensive facilities.

The climbing wall can be used for:

• School programmes
• Group hire
• Childrens' parties
• Junior climbing club
• Staff training
• Corporate events such as team building

Using the wall

All climbers will need to complete an assessment before accessing the wall on a pay-as-you-go basis. This can be done staight away or after an induction or instructional course. The assessment involves putting a harness on, tying the figure of 8 knot and stop knot, belaying and lowering down safely.

Inductions

Inductions run every Wednesday between 8.00pm and 10.00pm, followed by your assessment the following week between 7.00pm - 8.00pm. Alternative times can be arranged if needed.

The induction will teach you everything you need to know about basic climbing technique and climbing safety, whilst giving you a taster of bouldering and rope climbing. The following week you will be assessed and ready to be let loose on the wall.

Stone Monkeys Kids Club

The after school clubs are a chance for children of all abilities to learn more about climbing, developing their skills in a fun and controlled environment. The sessions are led by fully qualified instructors.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, 4.30pm - 6.00pm, £3.50 per climber, children aged between 8 and 16 years.

Parties

The Hot Rocks Climbing Wall is perfectly equipped to cater for children's parties. Sessions last 90 minutes and include kit and instructors. The session offers an introduction to climbing, but also offers a series of fun filled team games, ensuring the day is enjoyed by all. An area for chilling out and food after the exhausting session is available for £10.

Childrens parties - minimum age is 8 years. Dates and times are negotiable.
1-8 children: £75
9-16 children: £140
