Bournemouth University

Things to do

We are highly committed to the development of tennis and work closely with the LTA to ensure a comprehensive programme of tennis is available.

The club is coached by Matt Coombes (Level 4 qualified) and Richard Irwin (Senior Performance Coach).

Bournemouth University has four teams competing in the BUCS championships, two men's team and two women's teams. The men's first team compete in the Southern Premier League and the men's second team in Tier 1A. The women's first team play in the South Premier League and the second team in Tier 1A.

Training & Conditioning

Training times are Tuesdays 8.30-10.30pm (Men’s) and Tuesdays 6.30-8.30pm (Women’s). All training is based in Bournemouth Gardens Tennis Club and West Hants Club.

As part of each team’s weekly training schedule additional specific sessions on flexibility, SAQ and fitness are provided by a full time Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach. Varsity coaches work alongside the S&C coach to identify individuals for this sports specific training to improve physical strength, power and performance.
