Strength and conditioning

weights training

Strength and conditioning is available to all varsity teams with Performance Sports (Golf, Cricket, Tennis and Volleyball) receiving extra support. Each team has access to a minimum of five sessions each week covering weight lifting, flexibility, Speed Agility & Quickness (SAQ) and circuits. The programme aims to improve our athletes' performance by helping them to become stronger, faster, fitter and more resilient to injuries. Their enhanced physical abilities will improve their sports-specific skills and fitness.

Weight lifting sessions take place in our purpose built High Performance Suite where we have a full Olympic Weightlifting set up including platforms, Ivanko weights and power bars. Circuits and SAQ take place in the sports halls and Flexibility is run in one of our studios.

We also run outdoor fitness sessions that include flipping tyres, dragging sleds and sprint work to add variety to the programme and develop rounded athletes.

In July 2011 sportBU undertook an extensive refurbishment and enlargement of the High Performance Training Suite to provide better facilities and new equipment.
